Nils ”Mora-Nisse” Karlsson and Sofia Lind have won Vasaloppet most times.

Nils ”Mora-Nisse” Karlsson participated ten times and won nine of those times (1943, 1945-51, 1953). The year he didn't win (1944) he came in second place, crossing the finish line one second after the victor.

Sofia Lind has won Vasaloppet four times: 1997, 1999, 2004 and 2007.

Mora Nisse Rödmössa

The 90 km from Sälen to Mora have sections that go uphill (25%) and downhill (32%) but most of the time (43%) it's flat. The highest point of the Vasaloppet track is 528 metres above sea level and it can be found at the top of the first, long uphill section

Huge quantities of cold and hot drinks are served during Vasaloppet's Winter Week

The most popular is blueberry soup, followed by sports drinks, vegetable broth and coffee.

Ekström's classic blueberry soup is made using dried blueberries, and it's been a Vasaloppet staple ever since 1958. Vasaloppet buns are also popular, with over 200,000 buns consumed each Winter Week!

When you've completed your ski race, you can continue on towards Vasaloppstrippeln 2024.

Vasaloppstrippel

To complete Vasaloppstrippeln you ski, cycle and run 30, 45 or 90 kilometres in forefathers' tracks during one calendar year. This means that you only have two races left, so you're very welcome to return this summer! Registration is open.

Vasaloppet is working towards better gender balance with the project ”More women on the track”

In 1923, Margit Nordin became the first woman to complete Vasaloppet. As a tribute to Margit, and the women who came after her, 2023 was the starting point for Vasaloppet to focus on more gender-equal participation throughout all Vasaloppet events.

As early as five hundred years ago, skiers sped through the Dalarna woods at night.

”Day and night, some Dalarna men are skiing after Gustav.” So it says in Peder Svart's chronicle of Gustav Vasa's adventures in Dalarna 1520-21. About five hundred years later, Nattvasan 90 premiered in 2017. Nattvasan 45 followed the next year and Nattvasan 30 launched in 2022.

Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2025 starts on February 21 and ends on Sunday, March 2 with the 101st Vasaloppet. As usual, there are a large number of races to choose from, ranging from 9 km to 90 km. If you register by March 27, you will get a 20% discount on the registration fee for any race besides Vasaloppet. You are very welcome to register!
